To answer your question, I just had my surgery last week and it was done without anesthesia. My surgery was done at Yale-New Haven Hospital and was done with a sedative and a local. They will use anesthesia if needed but they prefer going with the sedative and local.

I'm pretty sure that you are in the UK Dave, but Dr Carling is originally from Sweden so perhaps he would be able to direct you to a surgeon there in Europe that can do the surgery without anesthesia for you.
